aKOUsan-tes de TAUta, heSUcha-san [2270], kai eDOxa-san [1392]ton TheON, LEgon-tes,

And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified :God, saying,

Ara kai tois ETHne-sin ho TheOS ten meTAnoi-an [3341]eis zo-EN [2222]Edoken.

Then to the nations also has :God granted :repentance unto life.

NOTE: 11:1-18 - Peter reports to the apostles and elders of Jerusalem, chiefly the Judaizers, how God set up by two visions the “key of the Kingdom” to be used in opening the Gospel to Gentiles. Those of a Judaizing spirit among the Pharisees - couldn't conceive that what Peter had done could have been of God!

Fortunately, Peter had brought along six believing Jews from Joppa, who served as witnesses with him as to what God had led in.

Peter in verse 16 added an extra thought that had not been brought out in Acts chapter 10 - namely his remembrance of the Lord Jesus' words as to the relationship between John's water-baptism - to be followed by the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Peter then used this point to show that what God did for Gentiles was exactly what He promised for Jews on the Day of Pentecost.

Thiswas the beginning of the “One New Man” composed of both Jew and Gentile, and recounted in the letter to the Ephesians by Paul.

This last point satisfied all objections. God was glorified for granting repentance unto life to Gentiles equally with Jews. Yet - though this was a first big step in a right direction - still it took Acts 15 and the Book of Galatians to follow-up - and even then there were continuing Judaizers who refused to accept the Gospel to Gentiles on the basis of Acts 15.
